The Gruffalo afternoon

Gruffalo and Gruffalo’s Child re-visit the Children’s Wood, 30th September, 3pm.  We are pleased to tell you that actor Tam Dean Burn will be supporting the campaign again by performing both books and songs – with a unique reading of the Gruffalo in Scots.

Children’s Laureate and author of the worldwide bestseller The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson, supports the Children’s Wood’s efforts to connect children to nature and to save this valuable space for children. Tam Dean Burn will perform Julia’s Gruffalo and Gruffalo’s Child book and songs for children outdoors in The Children’s Wood on the 30th of September.

The Children’s Wood has put on several hugely successful interpretations of Julia Donaldson’s books, where Tam has brought humour and magic to each story and song. Tam will perform a unique reading of the Gruffalo in Scots,

Previous performances of the Gruffalo and The Stick Man, by Tam have drawn in hundreds of people, who have been asking for more. This is why we decided to put on a longer performance of two books.

Emily Cutts the event organizer says “ There is nothing like this in Glasgow. The wood becomes a theatre and the atmosphere is magical. The wind blowing through the tress and the light all add to the nature themes of Julia’s books. Tam performances are so funny and engaging, yet delivered with love. The Children’s Wood has become known as the Gruffalo’s Wood to many children in the area. It is apt for these books to be told in the wood. and also because Julia supports what we are doing to save this special place.”

Julia Donaldson says “Wild spaces are invaluable to children, especially those growing up in towns. They stimulate the imagination and nurture the spirit. Places like the Children’s Wood within North Kelvin Meadow are hard to come by in urban settings and so should be preserved at all costs.”

Children can meet the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo’s Child, and there will be prize draws, JoJo Maman Bebe have donated a Gruffalo money box, Gruffalo soft toy and a £30 JoJo voucher, there are also Julia Donaldson books to win.  Face painting and much more. The event is FREE (though donations are hugely appreciated) and starts at 3pm.
