Building dens, not flats

On Sunday 14th of February, the community of North Kelvin and Maryhill built 90 dens with sticks, boxes, leaves and bits of material.  Hundreds of people including dozens of children came out to build dens on the green space as an alternative to the exclusive flats proposed by New City Vision, for our much loved community resource.

The community are fighting back  against a Glasgow City Council decision to grant permission to build flats on the land.

North Kelvin Meadow and The Children’s Wood has become a much-loved and vital community resource, used by thousands of people each year. Even local GPs are prescribing visits to North Kelvin Meadows for their patients, and dozens of local nurseries and schools use the space for outdoor activities every day.

It would be a travesty if 90 exclusive, luxury flats are built on land used by so many diverse people in this local community. We are URGING on the Scottish Government to do the right thing and call in the planning decision by Glasgow City Council and ensure the space is retained for the use of everyone in the local community.

Please sign and share our petition asking the Scottish Government to ‘call-in’ the plans to build houses on the land.

Here are just a few of the dens we built….
