Alison Spurway
Chairperson
Alison Spurway was invited to chair the Board of Trustees in November 2020. She has been a volunteer in Third Sector organisations since her adolescence, principally in Girlguiding where she was a leader of a group of girls with disabilities for over 40 years. In addition, she chaired the University of Glasgow Settlement which placed students in Third Sector organisations for 8 weeks over the summer vacation. Professionally, she was an administrator at the University of Glasgow.
Alison is greatly impressed by the history of The Children’s Wood – the campaign to save the land from development, the many community initiatives during its existence but most of all the way in which children are given the opportunity to play courageously outside in all weathers.
Covid has increased the isolation of families with a consequent impact on wellbeing. The Children’s Wood provides an escape into a natural, wild wood which calms the child and the carer. She is committed to seeing the charity grow in strength.
